Tips when purchasing a sitting standing desk
1. Height adjustment range
The European standard for desks prescribes that the height of the work surface of sit-stand tables must be adjustable at least in the range of 65 to 125 cm because then people with a height of less than 1.60 m or more than 1.80 m can set the optimum working height for them.
2. Stability
Sit-stand tables must remain stationary very quickly after impact. So-called height compensation elements (eg adjustable feet) must be present to compensate for unevenness in the floor.
3. Setting function
The height adjustment must be easy and reliable to use, even under heavy loads, and must also be quiet. Ideal is a memory function that remembers the correct working height for sitting and standing.
4. Noise Level
The height adjustment of sit-stand tables – especially the electrically motorized ones – does not work completely silently. But at least it must be so quiet that colleagues are not distracted from their work.
5. System Security
It detects when the tabletop hits an object and stops the movement before damage can occur.
6. Cable Routing
The cables for power and data should not hang loose from the table. Cable routing must protect against threading and fraying. Plug-in connections embedded in the desk surface are ideal for plug & play.
7. Workspace
This should be large enough to accommodate all documents and possibly be able to look at the screen together with a colleague.
8. Extensibility
Every desk should be expandable with additional functional elements, for example, a privacy screen that separates the work surface from adjacent desks and screen holders or other aids. It should also be possible to install it at a later date.
9. Durability
With electromotive drives, attention should be paid to an energy-saving standby mode. Good models have a consumption of around 0.1 watts. How durable a product is also depends on the long-term load capacity of the adjusting elements.
10. User Information
Each desk has a manual which, in addition to the adjustment functions, it is also explained how the optimal working height can be determined.
Where it is not possible for the time being to purchase a sit-stand table, we recommend table attachments that – simply placed on the tabletop – quickly create an extra work surface at standing height.
